When Tempted, Resist the Devil

by kingteamdad

Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17 NLT)

Ramblings from Connor’s dad – Connor and I watched an old war movie this weekend. It was one from the 60’s and the Americans were trying to take an island in the Pacific working their way toward Japan. The problem was they were in enemy territory, being attacked with rockets that were bombing their positions. They were losing a lot of guys as they tried to figure out where the enemy was, so they could fight back.

The Japanese were smart. They knew that the Americans would assume they were in one very obvious area. So they dug in no where near there, in an area where they would not be expected. Two hours later, as the movie was coming to an end, they figured it out, and were able to counter the attack, winning the battle. Some were killed as they naively walked through an open area, with their guard down. Others suffered mortal wounds when they did not have all their gear on.

We are in a spiritual battle, and our enemy is very at home here. The Armor of God is our spiritual protection. The Bible, the Word of God, gives us scripture that is our offensive weapon. When the American figured out where the rockets were coming from, they called in planes that bombed the hidden position. Our reinforcements or help, we can call in with prayer, 24/7. We have the privilege to “radio” God for support.

Today as I go out into this spiritual battle, I want to make sure I have all the equipment offered me. I don’t want to be a casualty before I even get out the door. And Heaven knows I don’t want to go out into battle without my “radio”…

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. (Ephesians 6:13-18)
