Heaven Waits for You

“Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” (2 Corinthians 5:1 NIV)

Ramblings from Connor’s dad– Rick Warren reminds us that God says, “I’ve got this great life planned for you,…”   Its hard sometime to believe, when we who are followers of Christ have had a hard week. In fact some of us have had a hard year.

Some have even had a hard life. I have a friend who lost his job this week, another lost a loved one, and another missed his second mortgage payment. We are going to get “beat up” sometime by the world. Not every day is going to be a sunny day full of butterflies and birds chirping. Some days, or months, will be stormy.  The “storms” will come and dampen our spirits. They can beat us down to a point of dissolution and even hopelessness.

I have friends and acquaintances that have recently been, or are now going through some pretty big storms. The hopelessness I hear when I talk to them, or see them, is hard to witness. One friend from several years back, in particular comes to mind. He had lost his job and his marriage soon followed. I asked him how his time with God was going, and he told me he didn’t have time, he had to focus on fixing things. I tried to explain to him I felt like it was more important then ever to spend time with God, and seek His wisdom. His eyes glazed over and I could tell it was not registering.

My recent contact with him led me to believe he has totally fallen away from any spiritual mooring. When the storm came he wasn’t anchored, and for all intents and purposes, the storm swept him away.

For those of us who believe, our hope should be anchored in Christ. He is something eternal, and certain. And if we are anchored to Him, the storms of life will come, but when the clouds disappear, we will still be there…anchored in Him.

I think I’ll put on my proverbial raincoat and go face another stormy day. I hope when people look my way, they see someone who reminds them of Jesus…

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”     (Joshua 1:9)
