Jesus Offers Us a Fresh Start
“Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life, and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven” (1 Peter 1:3-4 MSG).
RAMBLINGS from Connor’s dad – In our homeschooling, we went through several different types of curriculums with the kids. We even mixed it with a few private Christian school experiences. The kids enjoyed some more then others along the way.
There was one on-line curriculum we tried that was especially taxing to the kids. They constantly struggled with it. Some of it was simply the software with its glitches that made getting on line at times impossible.
It was especially bothersome to our firstborn, Connor. He liked doing things a certain way, and liked to get it done. The constant glitches with software and even connectivity, caused a lot of frustration and angst with him. I sensed almost a desperation in Connor to be able to do it a different way. A better way. A new way.
That type of frustration is similar to what most of us have as adults. We find ourselves in a situation (one that we often get ourselves in) and want to get out of badly. Many of us if we are honest, realize that the feelings actually come from a hopelessness we have. We have this empty place in our lives that we keep trying to fill with relationships, drugs, alcohol, or success. It doesn’t work so we try a different relationship, or more drugs, or greater success, and the desperation can get worse because that empty spot is still empty.
At the pinnacle of his career after winning a Superbowl, Deion Sanders realized the futility of the things he was chasing. He realized the hopelessness he faced, and the need he had for a Saviour. Still wearing his Superbowl ring that left him feeling empty, he gave his heart to Christ. Thankfully, he had no “connectivity issues” that night!
Like many of us Deion, had a chance to start over. He was desperate to change the situation he was in, the hopeless future he faced. He chose a better way. A new way. The ONLY way.
The only reason any of us have a chance to start over, is because of the sacrifice Christ made for us. He willingly died, in our place, so that we could be forgiven. Because of our mistakes, our blunders, OUR sin, HE died.
What an awesome Saviour we serve!…
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, (1 Peter 1:3-4 ESV)
