Move Forward with God’s Promises
“Always remember what is written in this book. Study it day and night to be sure to obey everything that’s written there. If you do this, you will be wise and successful in everything.” (Joshua 1:8 TLB)
RAMBLINGS from Connor’s dad – When Moses died, and God chose Joshua as his successor, a new Chapter for the Israelites began. They moved from the wilderness they “knew” for the past 40 years, across the Jordan River, into a land they did not know. They were leaving a life where they knew manna from heaven supplied their daily needs. They were leaving what they were comfortable with mentally, to the unknown.
God, through Moses, had promised them a land of milk and honey. A land He was going to give over to them. A land where no foe would be able to stand against them. I wonder what they felt as they stepped out of the dry river bed of the Jordan, up onto the ground of their new home? Were they anxious? Were they scared of the unknown? Or were they trusting God and His promise this time, and running up the river bank with great anticipation?
In many ways that’s today for Kris, Connor and I. Today Connor steps over from the 18 years of what he has known with us, to a new chapter. He begins his new life at Liberty University. Many freshman are taking these same steps today. Some scared, some anxious, while others are slamming the car door yelling “Love ya, mean it, bye!”, never looking back!
My hopes and prayers are Connor crosses over that river with a great sense of joy for what he has known, and excitement for what he has yet to experience. I pray that he will hide in his heart God’s promises, knowing all along he is loved by two adoring parents, sister, and brother. I also pray that in a whole new way he will understand how his Heavenly Father loves him even more.
My little firstborn baby, has faithfully made that 18 year trek. As I watch him cross over that river today, I no longer see a little boy needing us for everything. Instead a see a very competent young man, who I am confident will find the strength, to be successful, with the Holy Spirit’s support, in whatever God calls him to do! He is my modern day Joshua!!…
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:8-9)
