Invest to Help Others Meet Jesus

“By doing this they will be storing up real treasure for themselves in heaven–it is the only safe investment for eternity! And they will be living a fruitful Christian life down here as well.” (1 Timothy 6:19 TLB)

RAMBLINGS from Connor’s dad – Our oldest heads off to college this week. It has seldom been boring or uneventful with him leading the pack. As I have said before, Connor has an insatiable appetite for learning. And with that, comes a healthy appetite for teaching. He is always sharing something with us that he’s learned. Sometimes when its scientific, I pretend to fully understand. 🙂

When Connor was around 6, I taught him to ride a bike. The next day, we looked out window to see 5 year old Lacy ride by on the same bike. Connor taught her what he had just learned. We bought him a telescope to look at the stars once. He proceeded to teach Evan (4 years younger) the constellations.

Once from birthdays and Christmas, Connor built up over $100 in his piggy bank. Several Sundays after hitting that nice number, he heard of a special need for a family in crisis. The next Sunday he gave his entire savings to that need. This summer he saved his money at camp, minimizing sweet decadent purchases at the snack shop, so he could give more to the ministry they were helping sponsor in Haiti. I found out later, his “little” brother, who learns all kinds of “bad” habits from him, had done the same.

Our oldest is one of those rare individuals who walks around with an open heart…and an open hand.  Always willing to give whatever he has to whomever needs it.

I want to be more like Connor. I want to consistently be willing to give until it hurts. I want to hear my Father when He is quietly urging me to give or help somewhere…and then like Connor, I want to be found faithful.

I have no doubt with his giving heart, Connor will meet many people in Heaven one day who got there in part, because of his giving spirit.

They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.  (1 Timothy 6:18-19)
