What’s Keeping You from Your Goal?
Ramblings from Lacy’s dad – Several years ago a buddy hopped in his car, running late to head somewhere. As he pulled off, he could tell he was having car troubles because there was very little power and it was running rough. He was in a hurry, so he drove it hoping he would make it to the destination. As he headed down the road, he noticed a smell. His concern rose and he closely watched the gauges. His trip was uneventful and he was soon back at the office. While sitting at his desk, he made a list of possible problems with his car. Belts, gizmos, “thing-a-ma-bobs” and “watch-a-ma-call-its” began to populate the paper.
He pondered the different possibilities and their related costs. His concern grew as he considered worse case scenarios. That afternoon he pulled into a garage and asked them to diagnose the problem and give him an estimate for the repair. Several minutes later they told him it was fixed and there was no charge. It seems that in his hurry, he failed to release the parking brake!
How often do I do that in my day? Life is difficult enough, without driving around with our parking brakes on. We need to make sure we are doing all we can, while still relying on Him, to accomplish our goals.
If we are constantly coming up to bridges that are out, facing yet another obstacle or detour, we need to check our spiritual GPS, and make sure we are not going the wrong way. Maybe it’s our fault with the brake on. Maybe it’s God telling us to slow down. Or maybe we have the wrong goal or destination plugged in…
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
