Good Health Found Through Trusting God
I said to myself, “Relax, because the Lord takes care of you.” Lord, you saved me from death. You stopped my eyes from crying; you kept me from being defeated. So I will walk with the Lord in the land of the living.“ (Psalm 116:7-9 NCV)
Ramblings from Connor’s dad – This weekend Connor and I went to the Johnny Hunt Men’s Conference. It was a fantastic weekend where men were challenged to have an Escape Plan (Sin is a prison, lets break out!) Johnny talked about God’s incredible love for us, allowing Jesus to die for us. God did so knowing before we were even born, the sins we would so willingly commit. Those sins, because of Jesus shed blood, have been paid for and forgiven. This weekend dozens of men recognized their need for Jesus in their lives, and made a life changing decision. They decided to trust God and His promises!
Johnny talked about how many of us who are followers, beat ourselves up over and over again for past transgressions. Transgressions that were paid for by Jesus’ death on the cross. He talked about being set free from prison by Jesus, yet mentally standing at the gate still reminding ourself how guilty we are. Not forgiving ourself, when God already has. Johnny might say you can stay in the shadows of the prison walls, lamenting over something that God has already forgotten, or you can start down the path of the new life you have in Christ.
Isn’t that what trusting God is all about? Not leaning on your own understanding, but on His? God the Judge, said the wages of sin are death. And after sentencing us to death, He called His Son in to take our place. We shouldn’t be beating ourselves up in the shadows of the prison wall, we should be running down the road telling everyone that we have been pardoned and given a new life, because of the One who DID die in our place!
When we sin, we can feel like we failed both God and ourselves. But God wants us to know that we are already forgiven. The sooner we learn to trust in God’s mercy and forgiveness, the sooner we can let go of our past mistakes and embrace the future that He has laid out for us.
A tranquil heart is life to the body, but jealousy is rottenness to the bones. (Proverbs 14:30)
