Is It A Spiritual Discipline To Stay In Shape?
“Don’t you know that your bodies are a part of Christ’s body? So should I take a part of Christ’s body and make it part of a prostitute? Absolutely not!” ….”Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you .” (1 Corinthians 6:15,19 HCSB)
Rambling’s from Evan’s dad: I was talking to Evan recently about our body and the temple- and said eating and drinking things not so healthy, were equivalent to taking garbage and dumping it in the temple. Today, we read in Paul’s writing to the Corinthians where he addresses sexual sin.
All sin is bad. It is going against God’s will and commandments for our lives. However, sexual sin does seem to be in a special class. After all, Paul describes our bodies as a part of Christ’s body. Would we ever try to line up a date for Jesus and a prostitute?!? We would welcome a counseling session, where He could minister to them, but never a date! So if Paul thinks our bodies are a part of Christ’s, would it make sense to take Him to see an adult movie? Show Him porn? I know, put some ear buds in His ears and let him hear some of the rap on our airwaves. I don’t think so!
We might take Him to see a G rated Disney movie. We might even let Him watch network tv…before 9:00 p.m. The music? Maybe let Him listen to some classical…if I can find some. I think if eating bad is like dumping garbage in the temple, sexual sin is desecrating the temple with graffiti, kicking holes in the wall, and busting out a few windows. Can it be repaired? Sure…but, at a great cost!
Today, as I hang out with Jesus, I am going to be more conscious of where I take Him!…
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! (1 Cortinthians 6: 15)
