A Lot to Unlearn

“Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.”  (2 Corinthians 1:9)

Ramblings from Lacy’s dad  Aren’t we all slow on change? I have a friend that has been buying the same brand and style of tennis shoes for 20 years! That style looked really good 20 years ago. But now, he always looks like he is headed to a 80’s party!

One of Lacy’s brothers who will remain nameless, did not want to get a new pair of shoes. His running shoes were looking pretty “holy”, dirty beyond help, smelly, and frankly too small for his feet. He finally gave in when they developed an annoying CLICKING every time he took a step. The clicking was literally the soul of the shoe flopping half detached from the shoe. To us outsiders, it was pretty apparent he needed to make a change. When he finally got some new shoes, they were two sizes larger then the one’s discarded! It was very obvious to him, that the old shoes no longer had a place in his life.

Isn’t that the way we all are with our little world. We don’t like change with our shoes, our habits, and our “stuff”, basically our little kingdom. God looks down and realizes that we have something in our life that is dirty, smelly, hurting us, and hurting our relationship with Him. He whispers to us its time to change, but we don’t like change. He whispers a little louder that its time to change and we typically hold on a little tighter.

Finally, He lets things start to fall apart. Our life develops that annoying clicking (sometimes He even has to make it louder), and we finally, slowly give in and let go. And its only after we let it go, that we see how foolish we were for holding on!….

The Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little. You may not make an end of them at once, lest the wild beasts grow too numerous for you.  (Deuteronomy 7:22)
